To support research in the 2006-2008 NFFP project DirSim, a surface modeling tool and mesh generator (sumo) and a visualization program (scope) were developed. In 2008, the EU project SimSAC sponsored further improvement of sumo. Both programs are open source software distributed under the terms of the GPL, v2.
